Anthony Wang!

Hi, my name is Anthony. I grew up in Boston and moved to a little town in central Massachusetts called Westborough, where I spent my middle and high school years. Looking for some adventure, I went to college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then to graduate school at the University of San Francisco. After graduating, I moved down to the bay area for work.

The youth group was definitely the highlight of my childhood. I didn’t grow up in the church, so my childhood up to age 13 was filled with school, work, and heavy boxing and kickboxing training. There was a lot of pressure to succeed and work hard, and I welcomed the good news of the Gospel with open arms.

A lot of my family and extended family have also ended up in the Bay Area. Since my cousins and I grew up in different states, I’ve really enjoyed spending time with them and getting to know them better. I am a bit of a homebody, but when I’m not training kickboxing, wrestling, or jiu-jitsu, I like to spend my time outdoors hiking, at the beach, or hunting for the best food truck in the area (there are so many good ones it’s hard to choose). It’s so nice to live in a state where you don’t have to huddle indoors every winter! On lazy days recently I’ve been enjoying classic novels-- going through East of Eden right now.

God led me to Garden City after graduation in the summer of 2022 through the invitation of some pastors and friends that I knew in SF. I’m very grateful for how this church serves God and each other. I’m part of the Willow Glen life group, and it’s been so great just to pray and share life together over this past year.

It seems like the world gets crazier and crazier every month, and also I’m at the stage of life where I have to make big life decisions about work and relationships. Please pray that in the midst of these things, I would rely on God and seek His will above my own.
